GeoFI

FAQ

How the game works, what it costs, and where the money goes.

Playing

What is GeoFI?
You are dropped on a street somewhere in the world with no idea where it is. Place a pin on the map, and the closer you are the more points you score. Land close enough to the real spot and that place is yours to mint as an NFT on Solana.
Do I need a wallet before I can play?
No. Start a round straight away. Connect a wallet and sign in when you want your points to count on the leaderboard, and the rounds you already played that day come across with you.
Do I have to hold the game token?
Not yet. The balance check starts when the token launches, and from then a wallet needs a minimum holding to mint land and to pay for extra plays. The app only reads your balance on Solana. It never takes or moves the tokens. More about the token.
How many rounds do I get a day?
2 free plays, and one play is 5 rounds scored together. After those you can pay $0.7 USDC for another play, or $7 USDC for unlimited plays over 30 days. Free plays come back at 00:00 UTC.
How are points worked out?
A perfect guess is 5,000 points, and anything within 25 m of the real spot counts as perfect. From there the score falls away the further off you are. The clock matters too: a round lasts 3 minutes, and guessing in the first minute scores full points, the second minute 75%, the third 50%.

Land and NFTs

How do I claim a place?
Guess inside the claim radius for that place, which is 5 km on legendary land and up to 25 km on common. That gives you a claim ticket good for 30 minutes. Mint it before the ticket runs out or the place goes back to everyone else.
What does minting cost?
0.02 SOL, paid to the treasury.
How much land is there?
3,000 NFTs, and no more. Each one covers a 126 km radius and no two can overlap, so every claim takes that stretch of the world off the board for good. See what is already claimed.
What does rarity change?
A place takes its rarity from the city it sits in. A national capital is legendary, a state capital or a city of a million is epic, and a small town is common. That tier sets three numbers:
  • How close you must guess to claim it. Legendary land only counts within 5 km. Common land gives you 25 km.
  • What visitors pay you once you own it, to put their score on the leaderboard: $1 on common, up to $5 on legendary, one step per tier.
  • What their points are worth: ×1 on common, up to ×5 on legendary.
So rarer land is harder to win, dearer to play on, and worth more points to whoever plays there.

Money

How does owning land earn anything?
Every round drops a player on a street picked at random from somewhere in the world, and nobody gets to choose where. Sooner or later a drop lands inside your 126 km zone, and whoever is standing there has to pay you to put that score on the leaderboard. The fee is USDC and it goes straight to you, not the treasury. The more land you hold, the more often your zones come up. Playing on your own land costs nothing, and so does open land nobody has claimed.
What is the treasury and who gets it?
Mint fees, paid plays, subscriptions and hints all collect in the treasury. 70% of it goes to player rewards, shared equally by the top 5 on the 1st of each month, so every seat is worth the same 14%. The other 30% covers running the project, and whatever is left of that buys the token back and burns it. Zone fees are not part of this: they go straight to the land owner.
How does the treasury pay out?
The treasury is a wallet the developer controls, and the split is distributed by hand on the 1st of each month. On that day the leaderboard shows your share and you press claim, which registers it against your wallet; the payment itself is sent from the treasury wallet. No contract holds the money yet, so an automated treasury that works the shares out and pays them on its own is on the roadmap.
What do hints cost?
A hint names where you are and is paid to the treasury: the continent for $2, the country for $10, the city for $100.
What do I pay with?
Plays, hints, zone fees and challenge stakes are USDC on Solana. Minting land is SOL. The game token is only ever read, never spent.

Challenges

How does challenging a friend work?
Pick a stake, either a free match or anything from $2 up, and send the link to whoever you want to beat. A free link can be played without signing in. A match for money still needs a sign-in and a USDC deposit from each player. You both play the same 5 streets. The higher total wins, and if the scores tie the faster player takes it. The winner claims the pot, which is both stakes together. Start a challenge.
What is coming to the game next?
The roadmap lists what already works, what is being built now, and what is planned after it.
